7 Steps to Sensational Skin

jodie / 18th September 2014

I’m a firm believer in investing more money, time, and effort on your skincare than on your makeup. If you’ve got £30 to spend on either a nice bottle of Estee Lauder Double Wear, or some alpha/beta hydroxy acids, a nice, soothing moisturiser, and a gentle cleanser, I’d go for the latter because it’s better to have skin that glows and is blemish free, than to cover up your mishaps with the thickest, hardiest foundation you can find.

Micellar Waters: Garnier vs L’Oreal

jodie / 17th September 2014

Thanks to my ultra-sensitive skin, I’ve always struggled to find a makeup remover that’s both gentle and effective. That’s why I got super excited when I picked up Garnier’s Simply Essentials Soothing 2 in 1 Makeup Remover, and discovered it didn’t upset my skin in the slightest, and removed most of my stubborn mascara. But we’ll get to that later…

Soap & Glory “Feel Good Factor Translucent BB Cream SPF25” | Review

jodie / 16th September 2014

This is my go-to day moisturiser. If I’m leaving the house and it’s particularly sunny (or even sometimes when it’s not), chances are, I’ll be wearing this under my makeup. I’ve been quite loyal to this little tube for about 2 years now, because it just ticks all the right boxes for me. I’ve flirted with other moisturisers, even used some of them for quite a while, but I think I’ll always come back to this one.

Here’s a few reasons why I love it…

A word on trying out new products

jodie / 15th September 2014

I think it’s really important to give a product enough time and a fair chance to do its job before forming a real opinion on it – unless it seriously irritates the skin of course, in which case fling it out the window (preferably while screeching like a furious chimpanzee hurling its faeces at a sexual rival).

Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix Exfoliating Facial Pads | Review

jodie / 8th September 2014

I bought these after searching far and wide for a chemical exfoliant that was neither too harsh, nor too weak to do its job – these pads have 2.8% glycolic acid, so I thought this was enough to get me started (you can never be too careful when it comes to chemicals and the skin on your face). These had…

Avene Skincare Samples | Reviews

jodie / 7th September 2014

I had a wonderful surprise on Thursday when I came home from work to find that a little package from Avene had arrived. If you complete the skincare questionnaire on their website, they ask for your details (name, address etc.), you create an account, and they’ll send you some products based on your skin analysis. I think this is a…

YSL Forever Youth Liberator Eye Zone Serum | Review

jodie / 3rd September 2014

I bought this with my first ever pay cheque from my first proper job, so you’ll forgive me (’cause I sure as hell won’t) for waving goodbye to almost £50 for a piddly amount of liquid that’s supposed to sort out my panda eyes. The things we do for vanity… This serum claims to target “the whole panoramic eye zone:…

I didn’t choose the Sluglife, the Sluglife chose me

jodie / 31st August 2014

If you’ve ever frequented r/Skincareaddiction on Reddit, then you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.  Those who live the “Sluglife” are the ones who coat their faces with Vaseline before bed. Yes, this sounds crazy and unnatural and goes against everything you’ve ever thought about skincare (hello blocked pores, oily skin that can’t breathe, amirite?) but I’ve tried it and want…

Balance Me Moisture Rich Face Cream | Review

jodie / 18th August 2014

Oh, how I wanted to like this moisturiser. I love the ethos of the brand – the naturalness etc., – and I was looking for a new moisturiser (I still am), but this upset my skin a treat. It smells very natural and herbal, has a lovely thick consistency, and it’s quite a mattifying formulation, so I imagine it would…
