My go-to primer for the past few months has been e.l.f.’s Mineral Infused Face Primer (£6.95) in green for colour correcting. I ran out recently, so I popped into the Cardiff e.l.f store last weekend to pick up a new bottle. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the green one, which I love because it’s so silky and hides any redness in my face (my review of it can be found here) so I decided to try the “brightening lavender” version instead, which is supposed to be “ideal for uneven skin tones and and to brighten dull or yellow tones“. Sounds great, because my skin tone is a little uneven, with yellow/red undertones.
It’s such a lovely shade of purple – much nicer looking than the green version, in my opinion. Lots of pigmentation, but I’m not too sure how much it actually brightens and evens skin tone.
I tried it my hand, and after rubbing it in, my skin did look more luminous, but I didn’t quite notice the same effect on my face. This doesn’t really bother me though as I find all these weird, pigmented “colour-correcting” products a little gimmicky, and I’m not entirely convinced that they work. Usually after rubbing them in, you can’t notice the colour – but maybe they do work to some extent, who knows?
(I added a filter to the first picture to make it look pretty, but the ones above and below are untouched, so that’s exactly how the primer looks.)
Whether it genuinely brightens corrects my skin tone or not, I still love this primer. I didn’t by it in the hope that it would live up to these claims, I just really love how it feels on my skin, and how makeup applies over it. I
It has a gorgeous, silky feel without being too siliconey, like Maybelline’s Baby Skin, and not too hard to rub in/balling up on my skin, and rolling off like Benefit’s The Porefessional. Nope, this simply does what it says on the tin, and primes my skin, allowing foundation to glide on smoothly, and stay put all day.
It doesn’t irritate, and it’s so consistent and reliable – I apply it over my moisturiser before applying foundation, and it goes on perfectly every time, whether I’ve let my moisturiser sink in or not, saving me time getting ready. Some primer’s I’ve used can be so inconsistent, working fine one day, then letting makeup settle into any creases in my face the next. But not this one. This one is my Holy Grail primer. Doesn’t hurt that it’s the cheapest one I’ve ever bought either!
Have you tired e.l.f.’mineral infused face primer? Let me know what you think!
Consistency: Lovely and silky. Not too siliconey, goes over moisturiser perfectly, and foundation applies like a dream after using this – doesn’t look cakey or patchy.
Sensitive Skin Suitability: 5/5
Price: £6.95 from the e.l.f. store.
Overall Rating: 9/10. It would be cool if it lived up to its colour correcting claims, but these don’t really appeal to me anyway, so it doesn’t matter.
